This Family Didn't Move and Got Their Dream Home Anyway

After more than 20 years in the same beloved neighborhood, this family wasn’t interested in trading memories for a new address. Instead, they partnered with Elizabeth Ryan Interiors to rework the home they loved, keeping its architectural soul intact while redesigning it for the life they’re living now.

Refinement, Not Reinvention

This was a full interior renovation. Stairs moved, bathrooms relocated, the kitchen completely reimagined, but the goal was never to erase the past. Original details like diamond-paned windows remain, grounding the home in its history while allowing the layout to finally make sense.

Soft lavenders, pale blues, and gentle greens replace expected neutrals, balanced with richer tones to keep the palette timeless. A subtle nod to the homeowner’s love of William Morris appears in classic wallpapers tucked into the butler’s pantry and even carried onto ceilings for moments of quiet delight.

Designed for How They Actually Live

A living room that seats eight (plus a shih tzu with a dedicated ottoman). A study carved from the former dining room to showcase a leaded glass window. A primary bedroom with his and hers chairs. Same fabric, different silhouettes. Every decision reflects real habits, not resale formulas.

Coming home. Returning to a space filled with decades of memories, now reimagined with light, flow, and intention was the most meaningful moment of all. Proof that sometimes the dream home isn’t new. It’s familiar, just done better.
