Hiring an interior designer can be a daunting task when you don’t know where to start. While many people hire designers based on referrals from friends, there are several things you can do on your own to find a designer.
Use our Designer Directory to find credible designers in your area. If there are none in your area, you can do a google search.
Browse the designers’ websites and social media channels. The most important thing to look for is a design aesthetic that speaks to you. Most interior designers are on Instagram and you can really get a feel for their work here! Pay attention to the quality, balance, and attention to detail in their designs.
See if the designer belongs to any professional organization, such as the Interior Design Society (IDS). This ensures that the designer is serious about their work, is always seeking education and business development to stay on top of the latest trends and resources, and their business has been verified by the organization.
Look for reviews. These can be found on the designer’s website, google, or even sites like Yelp.
Remember that most interior designers are skilled in designing a variety of types of styles. So, just because they specialize in a particular style doesn’t mean that they can’t also meet your needs and wants!
