peace of mind design
Gloria Staats
From the time that I was a young girl growing up in Puerto Rico, I have loved influencing my surroundings. From painting my own childhood bedroom to working in the family garden, I took pride in taking design initiative.
After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, I packed the biggest suitcase that my mom and I could find and moved to Florida, where I got my Masters Degree in Psychology.
Why…
Toward the end of my time studying in Pensacola, I met my now husband. He was in flight school to become a Naval Aviator. We got married at NAS Pensacola, and our adventure began!
We were blessed to be able to see quite a bit of the world! We lived in the Bay Area in California; Whidbey Island, WA; Okinawa, Japan; Pearl City, HI; and completed our journey in Jacksonville, FL. Our two sons, who joined us along the way, were able to grow and learn about different cultures and environments.
It was fun to make the best out of each location in part by improving our “temporary quarters”. Sometimes we lived on base, sometimes we rented locally. Neither of these living arrangements allows for much style or personalization, but that served as a way for me to grow in my creativity and find subtle ways to make our homes as welcoming as possible.
Our sons were always our priority and in order to allow them to have a more consistent lifestyle, my husband retired from the Navy. We have been in North Florida for almost 20 years, and we truly love it.
