Live in Color

This month, we’re coming to you live in color! Did you know that color can be used to tailor your personality and give a room its ambiance? The presence of color can also improve your mood or quiet your mind to a place of comfort or joy-- a feeling we all could use a little more of here lately. Color theory is a key part of interior design and depending on the type of room or the activity within that space, can help determine what color choices need to be taken into consideration. To compliment a lead color, supporting swatches can lend to a more cohesive design.

To help simplify the color selection process, it’s best to hone in on your color palette. This allows you to try different colors, textures, and patterns to see what works well together.

Here are a few examples of different color choice options and the different moods they speak to.

JOY – KEEP THINGS BRIGHT AND LIVELY

Well, hello yellow! Yellow can be used in a couple of different ways to help bring a feeling of happiness and vibrance. Pops of yellow can help make a home feel more personal and livelier. This can be done by using items that have yellow hues or undertones weaved throughout them like upholstery or curtains.

Walls of yellow in a dining or living room can help activate a room’s energy into a warm and inviting meeting place for loved ones.

SERENITY – FEELING THE BLUES

Blue is strongly associated with the feeling of tranquility and calmness. The use of this color in your bedroom or living room can help ease your mind after a long day or provide a stable and relaxing backdrop for some much-needed teatime.

NEUTRALS & BEIGES – THIS IS NEUTRAL GROUND

The use of browns can help a space feel earthy and rich, especially when it is used in a kitchen. Brown used in a space can also make you feel grounded and stable, for instance when it is incorporated with wood features in a bathroom. Beige and other neutral hues can also be very relaxing and help provide a blanket from outside distractions while giving you a neutral base to layer in accent colors that fit the use of a particular room.

Now that we are home more than ever, our environment has to be flexible in order to serve many functions and many people as we try to find our rhythm in this new normal.
