For designer Tiffany Damle of Tiffany Jane Interiors, a small, narrow fourth-floor room became an opportunity to create something completely unique: a moody, sophisticated speakeasy for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying time at home.

The challenge? Making a compact space feel functional, comfortable, and full of personality.

Designing Around the Space (Not Against It)

With its long, narrow layout, the room required thoughtful planning to maximize every inch. Tiffany’s goal was to create a fully functioning bar while incorporating as much seating as possible without making the space feel crowded.

Her solution was a custom approach: a shallow-depth back bar, a front bar designed specifically for the room’s dimensions, and flexible seating that could adapt to the homeowners’ needs.

One of the standout features is the curved banquette on casters, which allows the seating to easily move when access to a mechanical room is needed. The design choice adds both practicality and a sense of sophistication, making the room feel more like an intimate lounge than a typical home bar.

Creating a Luxury Look Without a Luxury Budget

A beautifully designed room doesn’t always come down to the most expensive materials, it’s about knowing where to make an impact.

“When we started designing the space, we were looking for big impact without the big budget,” Tiffany shares.

Instead of investing in costly wallpaper throughout the room, Tiffany created drama through color drenching, covering the walls, trim, and ceiling in rich, moody shades of blue. The layered paint colors create depth and atmosphere while keeping the budget in check.

Behind the bar, Tiffany achieved a reflective, high-end look by choosing antiqued beveled wall tile instead of more expensive smoked mirror panels. The result? A glamorous focal point that feels custom while being much more budget-friendly.

The Power of Collected Details

The room’s charm comes from the thoughtful details layered throughout the space.

Vintage artwork sourced from estate sales and vintage markets gives the room a sense of history and individuality. Tiffany elevated these one-of-a-kind finds by framing them with painted wall trim and adding contrasting paint colors behind each piece, creating a custom gallery effect using simple materials.

The brass details throughout the room add warmth and a touch of timeless elegance, from the hand-hammered brass sink to the lighting, faucet, and cabinet hardware sourced from local and independent artisans.

These finishing touches prove that personality often comes from the details you choose, not just the price tag attached to them.

While the custom bar may be the star of the room, Tiffany’s favorite element is the seating that transformed the space into a true gathering spot.

The addition of the corner banquette and bench seating creates a more relaxed, inviting atmosphere and allows guests to settle in and stay awhile.

“The banquettes offer a softness and contrast to the dark color of the room,” Tiffany says. “They bring in the romance that really balances the ambience.”
